What to do in Reykjavík
Take a stroll around the city centre, stopping by the Church Hallgrímskirkja (you may find the architecture familiar if you hiked to the Waterfall Svartifoss in Skaftafell). From there stroll down the Skólavörðustígur street down to Bankastræti and from there to the Parliament, the City hall on the city’s Lake Tjörnin and from there towards the old harbour. You can hop on board a whale watching boat from the harbour or visit one of the many restaurants there.
If you like to add a museum visit to today’s agenda, you could stop by the “Harbour House” Hafnarhús at the Reykjavík Art Museum, or at the National Gallery near the Lake Tjörnin. The National Museum is also worth a visit if you are still curious about Icelandic heritage as well as the Maritime Museum Víkin. If you are curious about the Northern lights you’ll find the Aurora Borealis Exhibition around the corner from the old harbour.
If you are interested in architecture you should not miss a visit to the recently built music and congress hall, Harpa. Concerts with Icelandic music are often held during lunch time and in the evening plays for tourists are shown. Visit the homepage for further information and program.
