A photo tour at the edge of the Arctic circle focusing on the northern lights. You and your professional photo guide will have the focus on the lonesome landscapes of Melrakkaslétta as well as the rough volcanic lava fields around Mývatn.
The northern lights are a natural light display in the sky particularly in the high latitude (Arctic and Antarctic) regions. Esja Travel provides a tour for visitors to enjoy this remarkable display of the nature. Destinations are variable after condition of weather and time. We do our best to choose the best places around Raufarhöfn each time for seeing the northern lights.

Day 1: Arrival at Keflavík Airport – Reykjavík
Arrival at Keflavík airport, where you will be met by Esja Travel representative. We leave the airport and drive through the lava fields to your hotel in
Reykjavík, Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Akureyri – Húsavík – Raufarhöfn – Northern lights
After an hours morning flight to Akureyri we drive to Húsavik village and on Ásbyrgi, Ásbyrgi is undoubtedly one of Icelands most beloved natural wonders, an enclosed canyon.
The enclosure is about 3.5 km long and 1.1 km wide, surrounded by cliffs which reach as high as 100 m. According to legend, the horse of Óðinn, the chief god of Norse mythology, stepped down here leaving its giant hoof print.
We continue to Raufarhöfn, a small fishing villeage with beautiful vies of the coast. In Raufarhöfn, an Arctic Henge is being built. This stone circle will
celebrate Nordic mythology and Icelandic folklore. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Norðurljós (Hotel Northern lights).
Day 3: Raufarhöfn vicinity – Northern lights
We spend the day near Raufarhöfn village. In the afternoon and into the night we focus on and follow the Northern lights. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Norðurljós.
Day 4: Lake Mývatn – Reykjavík
Today we leave for Lake Mývatn area. Mývatn is a magical area, not least in winter. We will visit Námaskarð, Mine Pass, is a myriad of hot mud springs in widely different colours and Dimmuborgir (Dark Castles) a volcanic rock formations to the east of Lake Mývatn. The area is characterised by numerous forms of mystery and imagination, carved in lava.
The Mývatn Nature Baths are open year round. There you can relax after an eventful day under a starry sky or even in a snowdrift.
The day ends with a short tour of Akureyri before an afternoon flight back to Reykjavík
Dinner and overnight in Reykjavík.
Day 5: Departure
Departure transfer to Keflavík Airport or prolong your stay in Reykjavík.
