Day 1:   Arrival

Arrival at Keflavík airport, where you board an airport shuttle taking you to your accommodation in Reykjavík. Activity suggestions available upon request if you arrive early in the day.

Day 2:   National Park Þingvellir, Geysers, Waterfall Gullfoss & Horse Farm

Meet your guide at your accommodation after breakfast. On the way out of town we do a short introduction tour of Reykjavík before heading to one of Iceland‘s most important site. The national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Þingvellir, is the best place to start a tour and get an introduction Icelandic history and geology. The lovely lava landscapes, remains of the ancient parliament site and Lake Þingvellir will not spoil the experience.

From Þingvellir it‘s not too far to the next stop, Fontana Spa at Lake Laugarvatn. The locals have been visiting natural steam baths here since 1929 for its healing powers. The steam bath houses are built on a natural hot spring, so you‘ll hear the water boiling as you relax. The lovely facility also offers warm cosy pools and the brave ones can cool down in the lake.

After enjoying lunch at a local farm restaurant in the vicinity we continue to the Geysir area to experience the very active hot spring Strokkur and a short drive further we see the majestic waterfall Gullfoss.

Late in the afternoon we take a detour to a horse farm where we learn about the Icelandic horse and have an opportunity to get close to these small but very strong and reliable animals.

From here we drive to our accommodation, for the night. Located near the village Hvolsvöllur in the Fljótshlíð area, where one of the most important Icelandic Saga, Njáls‘s Saga, was set. Allegedly one of the characters, Gunnar was exiled and should leave Iceland, however as he looked around in Fljótshlíð, he decided he couldn‘t leave this beautiful land and decided to stay and face his fate.

Day 3:   Waterfalls & Black Coasts

Today we follow the ring road towards the east until we get to the glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón. On the way we‘ll stop by the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Furthermore we visit the local Folk- and Transport Museum Skógasafn.

Next stop is at the remarkable coast of Reynisfjara, where we have a fantastic view of the glaciers Mýrdalsjökull and Sólheimajökull and the rock formations Reynisdrangar just of the coast near Vík while exploring the black sand beach and the amazing basalt columns.

Our accommodation is located in the vicinity of the massive glacier, Vatnajökull.

Day 4:   Glacier Walk & Glacier Lagoon

The first stop of the day in the impressive Vatnajökull area is at one of its highlights, Skaftafell. From there we’ll join group for an easy and guided glacier walk on Svínafellsjökull glacier tongue, 1-1,5 hours in total on the glacier to enjoy the amazing and stunning scenery with magical ice sculptures.

In the afternoon we drive further east at the foot of the glacier to the glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón. If travelling in the high winter, November to March, we‘ll take a walk on the coast of the lagoon and enjoy glacier view, April to October we‘ll be able to join an optional boat tour on the lagoon.

Day 5: South coast & Reykjavík

On our drive along the south coast back to Reykjavík, we’ll be able to catch up on sights we may have missed on the way east and we’ll stop by the Farm Þorvaldseyri, where the farmer has set up an exhibition and shows a short film about the life in the shadow of the infamous Eyjafjallajökull. The film shows how the eruption in 2010 affected the lives of people in the neighbouring area.

Arrival in Reykjavík in the afternoon, where your guide says goodbye with heavy heart.
