Iceland belongs on every photographers bucket list. In this workshop we travel through parts of southern and western Iceland. We photograph spectacular waterfalls, glaciers, icebergs, dramatic coastlines, geysers, mountains, horses and more. The tour takes place early June when the weather is mild, the land is lush and the sun hardly sets.
The six-day adventure includes accommodation, meals, bus and domestic air travel (international air fares not included) and instruction through the two professional photographers John Tunney and Tim Vollmer.
Departure: 2 – 7 June, 2014
Duration: 6 Days/5 Nights
Minimum number of participants 4, maximum 8.

You meet your instructors and the rest of the group in the late afternoon for an introduction, orientation and a dinner.
Dinner and overnight in Reykjavík.
Day 2, 3 June, 2014: Reykjavík & Snæfellsnes Peninsula
We start early in the morning with a drive to the Snæfellsnes peninsula. Among the highlights are Kirkjufellsfoss (“Church Mountain Falls”), the iconic Mt. Kirkjufell, Snæfellsnes National Park and Snæfellsjökull glacier, famous as the setting for Jules Verne’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth.
Dinner and overnight in Borgarfjörður.
Day 3, 4 June, 2014: Þingvellir National Park, Geysers, Gullfoss Waterfall & Vík
We leave the Borgarfjörður area and drive to the Þingvellir national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Þingvellir is a remarkable geological site and the most historic place on the island, where the world’s oldest democratic parliament was founded in 930. We then visit the Geysir region with its many hot springs and geysers that spout up to 30 m/100 ft. Afterwards we stop by the Gullfoss “Golden Waterfall”, one of Europe’s most impressive waterfalls. Here you can see thousands of tons of icy water thunder majestically down in a double-fall into a deep gorge.
From here we continue to the south coast of Iceland and to the Vík village. On the way to Vík we will visit two of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. The area around Vík is famous for its “stacks” – giant basalt rock formations just off the black sand beaches.
Dinner and overnight near Vík.
Day 4, 5 June, 2014: National Park Vatnajökull & Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon
We continue the drive along the south coast and head for Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. On the way we will explore the area around Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull.
The glacier lagoon is famous for the icebergs that calve from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, a glacier tongue of the Vatnajökull glacier, and drift on the lagoon into the ocean. We take time to photograph the area around the lagoon from its banks and take a short boat tour among the huge icebergs drifting on the lagoon. Furthermore we will spend some time on the nearby black sand beach, where giant ice boulders wash up on the shore.
Dinner and overnight near the glacier lagoon.
Day 5, 6 June, 2014: Vatnajökull Glacier, Höfn & Domestic Flight to Reykjavík
The glacial scenery continues with a visit to Skaftafell, an oasis within Europe’s largest National Park Vatnajökull. Volcanic eruptions, glaciers and rivers have worked together here over thousands of years to create a stunning landscape. We also explore the area around Höfn fishing village before catching an evening flight back to Reykjavík.
Dinner and overnight stay in Reykjavík.
