The Reykjavík Gay Pride has become a festival where the whole nation comes together to celebrate the fact that in Iceland you can enjoy the freedom of being and living as you are. The six day festival is filled with exiting events, lectures, queer cruise, various gay walks, family festival concerts, gallery openings, parties and last but not least the Pride Parade itself. The Pride Parade is in Icelandic called the “Parade of Joy” or gleðiganga, which hopefully says it all.
Esja Travel is proud to present the 2016 Reykjavík Gay Pride Package with a mix of colourful culture, amazing nature, great music and excellent food. Make sure that you don‘t miss a thing!

Minimum number of participants: 2
Day 1, 2 August 2016: Welcome to Iceland!
Arrival at Keflavík airport where you board the Flybus transferbus to Reykjavík. The comfortable bus is equipped with a free Wi-Fi so you can start sharing your Iceland experience and update your Grindr / Scruff / Qrushr location as the bus takes you through the lava fields of Reykjanes peninsula into the capital.
You meet up with our partners at Pink Iceland at the National Queer Organisation downtown. From there everyone joins a walk through town with a gay guide starting with a stop by the (world) famous hot dog stand Bæjarins beztu where you get, as the name states, the town’s best hot dogs.
Afterward we stroll through city centre to the Hallgrímskirkja church, on the way we’ll visit one of Reykjavík’s many ice cream shops, to find out why Icelanders love ice cream as much as they do. We’ll have some ice cream in good company. Yes, Icelanders love ice cream so much that the Government Offices of Iceland saw the need to make an official traffic sign. We'll take you to a fantastic ice cream shop.
After enjoying the ice cream we go to the church tower to enjoy the view of the colourful roof tops of downtown Reykjavík.
Going to one of the local swimming or thermal pools is a life style for the locals. And we’d like to invite you to do as a true Icelander and join us for a swim at the city’s oldest pool. It was found to be so grand when it was built that they named it Sundhöllin or the “Swimming Palace”. It’s an indoor pool with a lovely outdoor Jacuzzi and steam bath out on the roof, the perfect place to get rid of the jet lag.
Day 2, 3 August 2016: Gay Snæfellsnes Peninsula Safari
This wonderful day tour introduces you to the wonders of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula - one of the most picturesque places in Iceland and the inspiration for Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth.
The trip takes you around the whole peninsula with plenty of exciting nature stops where you will experience, amongst other things, a beautiful black pebble beach, stunning cliffs, amazing birdlife, important historical sites, lava fields, and much more.
The first stop is at the picturesque town of Stykkishólmur on the north coast of the peninsula. We'll stroll around the beautiful village and have a light lunch before we continue to the village of Grundarfjördur to see the monumental Mt. Kirkjufell.
We then drive on to the National Park of Snæfellsjökull Glacier where we explore the wonders of the peninsula and see the coast line and lave fields around. We see the beautiful cliffs, Lóndrangar and the beach of Djúpalónsandur. We drive to Hellnar village where we explore the coast line and it‘s beauty. You'll have the option to have a light dinner there, or a glass of wine, or both. We recommend both.
The last stop of the day is at Búðir, where we'll find a beautiful small country church. On our way to Reykjavik we stop by a beautiful white sandy beach and try to spot seals or bird life in this beautiful part of Iceland.
