You haven‘t lived until you‘ve experienced Reykjavík on New Year‘s Eve. Pretty much every single person in the city takes a box full of fireworks outside just before midnight to blow the old year to bits and then parties till the break of dawn. There‘s nothing quite like it! On this tour you get to experience the unique Icelandic winter nature, boiling hot geysers, waterfalls, a bath in the warm Blue Lagoon and possibly the northern lights as a bonus.
Duration: 5 Days / 4 Nights
Minimum number of participants 2, no maximum.
Day 1, 29 December: Arrival – Reykjavík City
Welcome to Iceland! Transfer from the airport to your accommodation. Early or afternoon arrivals all our New Year‘s Eve Tour guests should be able to participate in the afternoon Gay City Walk, where a guide from our team will introduce you to the lovely city centre of Reykjavik. During the tour Reykjavik's main attractions are highlighted on foot with a sprinkle of LGBT history.
Day 2, 30 December: The Gay Golden Circle & Northern Lights Hunt
A relatively early rise for an amazing adventure in the Icelandic nature during the Gay Golden Circle tour. You will get the chance to walk around the world famous Geysir geothermal area, a geothermal field with hot springs in ab undance, an erupting geyser and pools of bubbling mud.
This is followed by a visit to the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall, where the power of the water can be felt through the air. The penultimate stop is at Þingvellir national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site, the site of the oldest parliament in the world where the great Atlantic rift is clearly visible, a rift that is slowly tearing Iceland apart along tectonic plates.
For dinner we will stop in the geothermal town of Hveragerði at Varmá restaurant at the wonderful Frost and Fire hotel. After dinner we get to really relax in the wonderful out door hot tubs at Frost and Fire while we enjoy some bubbly and gaze into the sky after the Northern Lights. If we don't see the lights from Frost and Fire or if we want a closer look your guide will venture out into the mysterious darkness of South Iceland to hunt for the lights.
Day 3, 31 December: New Year‘s Eve
Make sure to sleep in because you're in for a long night. You can spend your day exploring Reykjavik but be ready at 8:00 pm because then our team will pick you up for the BUBBLY BONFIRE, FIREWORKS & PARTY TOUR.
First stop is one of the ever so popular community bonfires, we'll probably stop at the one right in front of Björk's house. There we will enjoy the fire and the company of the locals and your guides will have a hot drink handy and something to spice it up with.
After the bonfire experience we will take you to a local restaurant where you will have a fabulous meal and when you are done the we‘ll take you to Hallgrímskirkja, the church on top of the hill where you will experience firework madness. Stay close to us and don't wander off cause there are fireworks going on left and right and you will be lighting one of them!
To get us heated again we'll stop by a local house party with an open bar before hitting the clubs for dancing into the night.
