This tour is just great if you’d like to go off the beaten path, travel in a modified 4x4, get close to the infamous Eyjafjallajökull volcano, snowmobile and kayak. Enjoy a dip in the Blue Lagoon, see the rift valley at Þingvellir and spouting spring at Geysir geothermal area and get acquainted with the capital city of Iceland from the saddle of a bicycle.
Travel season: 15 May - 15 September
Duration: 4 Days / 3 Nights
Minimum number of participants 4.
Day 1: Arrival – Blue Lagoon and City Tour on a Bicycle
After arrival, we travel through lava fields to the Blue Lagoon for a relaxing dip in 38°C therapeutic geothermal water. The Blue Lagoon is surrounded by a moss-covered lava field dating back to 1226. After a refreshing bath in the lagoon, we continue to Reykjavík.
After check in, we’ll do a city tour on a bicycle. This is perhaps the most fun way to explore both the well-known sites in Iceland’s capital city as well as some of its hidden secrets. This tour includes but is not limited to Reykjavík’s Old Harbour, Harpa Concert Hall, the City centre, Parliament building, the University of Iceland campus, the south coast of the Reykjavík Peninsula – Ægissíða, Reykjavík’s Catholic cathedral, Tjörnin city lake and more. This easy bicycle ride lasts approximately 2.5 hours, and you’ll cover 7 km of some of Reykjavik’s most historic and interesting parts.
Overnight in a four star hotel in Reykjavík.
Day 2: Golden Circle – Snowmobile on Langjökull Glacier
Today, you’ll be transported in a modified 4x4, a so-called “super-jeep” with extraordinary large tires and elevated suspension. These vehicles can go just about anywhere and just as well, because you’re going to a glacier in the highlands for a snowmobile ride!
First, you’ll have the opportunity to visit Þingvellir National Park, which is one of Iceland’s most significant historical sites. It is the place where Iceland’s first parliament was founded in the year 930 AD. From Þingvellir, we head along mountain tracks toward the world-renowned geothermal area around Geysir geothermal area. From there, we continue on to the powerful Gullfoss (Golden Waterfall), where you’ll be able to enjoy a refreshing spray in your face from the waterfall.
The best part of the afternoon you’ll spend snowmobiling on the glacier. It is fairly easy to ride a snowmobile, but it will get you across the glacier and to some viewpoints without much effort. After the snowmobiling excursion, we continue through the countryside in the vicinity of Mt. Hekla in the south of Iceland. Overnight in Hekla area.
Day 3: Eyjafjallajökull - Kayak Tour
Travelling again in a super-jeep, you’ll visit places in the vicinity of Eyjafjallajökull glacier and volcano. The idea is to go as close as possible to the infamous volcano, and to do this, we travel into the Þórsmörk valley (Valley of the Gods) where we’ll cross some unbridged rivers. There are still some visible signs from the eruption. You’ll see the big gaps where the massive flood of melted ice forcefully broke its way through the glacier when it came into contact with the glowing lava and tumbled into the lagoon, overfilling it and breaking down the hills surrounding it as the flood-wave hit the valley.
In the afternoon, you’ll get to play around with a kayak near the south coast of Iceland. We paddle along Löngudalur Lake into the narrow canals of a swamp. Finally, after a busy day, we end the day at Við Fjöruborðið restaurant for a lobster feast before returning back to Reykjavík, overnight in a four star hotel.
